What is the best Chromebook to buy during Big Prime Deal Days?

ChromeOS has long been top-of-mind in the budget laptop category and the occasional deal here and there would mean you could get an extremely cheap, but halfway-decent one for under $100. Well, it’s 2023, and our standards are going up – as they should – but prices are, too. So, we’ve picked these devices spanning the space under the slightly arbitrary ceiling of $400.

  • Acer’s Chromebook 317 (review via Android Police) lets you stretch out with a 17.3-inch 1080p display. It’s got one of the better Intel Celeron chips you can get and comes with 128GB of storage built-in. Prices have been falling since the beginning of the month.
  • The HP Chromebook Laptop 15at-nb000 features Intel’s latest entry-level N200 processor (which means you’ll get the longest software update window with this pick) and it kicks butt when paired with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. This particular product listing also gives you a 128GB microSD card as well. Clip the coupon and snag $40 in savings.
  • Back to Acer for the Chromebook Spin 513 which brings ARM-based power with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c Gen 1 along with 8GB of RAM. After a good while at list price, the discounts started piling up in July. Right now, $314 is the lowest we’ve seen it on regular sale.
  • Finally, Lenovo’s Chromebook Duet 3 (or 3i in some regions) brings us our first convertible tablet design along with a Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Average pricing has fallen about $50 since late summer, but you can pick it up for an even better $339 if you’re looking at the right hours.

How we chose these Chromebook deals

If you’ve already dipped into Amazon to take a look at your options, you might’ve been overwhelmed by all the models, the specs, and the prices you saw. The freedom that some warehouse space and an e-marketplace can provide means old, underpowered products can pollute search listings long after they’re truly relevant. Compounding the difficulties in buying a new Chromebook these days is that manufacturers have tightened their leash on how they distribute their products – some models or even specific configurations are allotted to one retailer, others go to another chain, still others are kept back to be sold by the brand themselves. It doesn’t help that the production lots are relatively small and that sellers are raising prices on older premium devices.

At Pocket-lint, we’ve got the experience to figure out what kind of hardware you’re getting in Chromebook and whether it’s worth the money you’re paying for it. We’ve reviewed a number of the products we’re suggesting here today and have linked to those critiques as they’re available (in some cases, we may refer to one of our venerable sister sites). We also check price histories on each product to make sure that the sale price is actually a sales price – we accept no hike-and-spike prices here. As an additional parameter, we’re also specifying that these products are new inventory from the manufacturer and not used, refurbished, or upgraded by third parties.

If these deals aren’t to your liking, we strongly recommend checking out what you can find in the new Chromebook Plus portfolio. They’ve just launched, so there may not be any discounts in time for Big Prime Deal Days, but you may just see a couple of dips in time for Black Friday.
